5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read treasure December 24, 2012 By Henrietta Lala Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase "I've been reading about 70 years and Blackbird is one of those rare nuggets of pure gold in a whole mountain of clay . It plays out like the blues, full of riffs and bass and gravel that spin themselves into a mirror of soul not ashamed to get down and dirty and come up dragging us into a light we refused to open our eyes to before. Don't let the stomp and shuffle and guffaws fool you into thinking it's not about you, you ain't gonna get off that easy. I was in Gadsden Alabama for about three months in 1958, and he's not telling any lies. It was my first experience with deep southern segregationist views. A great morality tale told by a masterful and powerful writer about a very unique character."
................................From Will:
Of everything I have ever written, "Blackbird" is my favorite piece. When writing flows out of you like a river... it is heaven. Blackbird flowed from beginning to the end... until the well went dry. And I published what I had, thinking there would be no more. I was wrong.More "Blackbird" is coming to me. It started about three days ago and hasn't stopped yet.
I honestly don't know where it's going. I have an idea, but that is subject to change.
Because I do not plot. The characters tell me what to write. And if I try to exert my own will... they don't put up with it. It's their way, or the highway.
I choose their way.
So for those of you who loved Blackbird, be prepared. There is definitely more coming down the road.
Excuse me, I have to go. They are waiting to tell me more. Bill, Grover, Boogie... and a new character I never in my life dreamed of. A woman. Or as Grover says... "Trouble."
Bye until then,
Will. Update: Eighteen new short chapters later, Blackbird finally stopped flowing again. Look for it to be published in the Fall of this year, 2013.

Whichever it is, writer or reader or both, my friend Darcie may be looking for you.
She is part of an exciting new show that appears on Google Plus live called Slushheap.
Each week they have one special writer (you?) plus a panel, all discussing writing, and also answering questions from the audience about writing in today's Indie world.
If you are a writer you could possibly gain a lot of publicity by appearing on Slushheap and discussing your work, on live on Tuesday nights, at 7 PM EST.
Even if your only interest is in reading there may be a place for you on the panel - Because I found out a long time ago that EVERYBODY has a story to tell - they just may not know it yet.
If interested visit Slushheap.com and read about the show, then contact Darcie at the address given.
At the very least, you stand to meet a wonderful new person - Darcie - one who if you become friends, will always be there for you...
as she has been for me.
So what are you waiting for? Go to Slushheap.com NOW...
And tell Darcie Will sent you.
Best wishes to all!
Will.

Hello, and Thank you for the support you have shown me this last year.
The next semi annual "giveaway" is coming up fast and will be the five days before the fourth of July, 2013.
At that time I will again be giving away all the eBooks I can, including one completely new one, "The Elvis Journals," which a very special person has already agreed to do the audio book.
I hope you will enjoy it.
Til then I will continue to put up eStories as I finish them, beginning with "Reluctant Cougar, which is free from Feb 7 through the 12th. Best wishes to all, Will.
I want to thank all of you who took advantage of the 2nd Annual Christmas eBook Give away. Over 7,000 stories were downloaded free in all, including 1,205 copies of "Blackbird: A Boy Meets the Devil for the First Time."
The next free give away will be the 4th of July one, beginning 5 days before then, on June 30th.
Going into January I'll be putting more stories on Amazon.com, the first being "Ten Guns and a Wheel Chair." It will be free Dec. 31st and January 1st, then again later on in the week, from January 4th through the 6th.
After that will come "Elvis: Live at My Father's Cafe," a short memoir,
and then, "Area 51 Yard Sale," about which one reviewer said, "I had to read it twice I was laughing so hard!"
I will try to update this site so you will know exactly when the coming stories are going to be free.
Hope you have a Happy New Year!
Will Bevis.
Happy Holiday Season! For the second year in a row I will be giving away free all of my older Books that I can - about 50 different ones - beginning the 20th of December and continuing through Christmas Eve. And I am proud to announce I will also be giving away free a brand new story I am very happy with. So much so, that I urge you If you only download one story of mine this year... Make it this one: Blackbird: A Boy Meets The Devil For the First Time. I feel it is one of the best stories I have ever written.I hope you will, too.
I will also be giving away at the same time another completely new work, called "My American Dessert." I'm excited about "My American Dessert"because within that story is a second, written by a very talented young woman I ran across by the name of Ms. Cynthia McGuinnes. I heard Ms. McGuinnes portraying the story she and a friend had written,at the "A Walk in Time Cemetery Tour," in Gadsden, AL and was completely knocked out by her performance. It struck me that it was not only an excellent portrayal of a "dead" character, but it was incredible writing as well.I liked it so much that I stayed and listened to her perform it SEVEN times! Her performance was originally meant to be seen and heard, not read, and her voice rendition was absolutely perfect. I hope you will enjoy the written version, and all the other stories of mine that will be free the week before Christmas.Download all you want, and save them to read at your leisure during the coming year. This is my way of saying thank you, for the best year I have had yet, as an Indie author.I've sold more eBooks and Audio Books this year than I ever dreamed possible... only a couple of years ago.And I believe...It is just the beginning.Thank you for your interest.Sincerely,Will Bevis December 16, 2012Gadsden, Alabama. Last Month, September 2012, I made all my stories free that I could, for the benefit of a great voice talent, Dai Kornberg, who has unfortunately lost his day job, in the hopes that some of the people reading my work might make a donation to him and his family during their time of need.
An incredible 9,157 free eBooks were downloaded that month...
And I want to thank any of those downloaders...
Who took the time to send my friend whatever they could...
As I did.
And it's not too late. If anyone reading this is inclined to help a stranger in need...
Send whatever you can through paypal to Daibatokornberg@gmail.com
Better yet, if you live in the Los Angeles yet and know of any authors or producers who are need of voice talent for audio books or television or motion pictures, or know of any other work available in that area, please contact Dai at his email of Daibatokornberg@gmail.com
Dai has an incredible array of "voices" and I believe he at one time was the voices of three of the "Rug Rats" on television or film not long ago... a program that a lot of kids enjoyed very much.
I liked his voice so much, that I asked Dai to do the audio for my story "A Marriage Story: Not all marriages are the Same," which is available on eBook now, and which should be available on Audio Book in the Middle of October, 2012.
And I hope in the future for him to do more of my work on Audio.
But first things first.
We all know that misfortune can happen to any of us at any time. If it happens to me, I want to be worthy of receiving any help I might deserve.
And to me, the only way I can be worthy...
Is to do what I can for anyone I see in need.
Thanks for anything you can do, as well.
I have done that for Dai...
And I hope you can pitch in a helping hand, too.
As he told me, I tell you: "God Bless You..."
Sincerely,
Will Bevis Nov. 1, 2012
People are still losing jobs... Among them a very talented man I met, who has a wife and daughter.
That is why I am offering ALL of my work that I can, free for Kindle on Amazon.com for as long as I can - five days during September... - in hope that if people enjoy at least some of it, they might be willing to donate whatever they can, to the family I know in need. I would like to think that if I lost my job some of the people I know would offer assistance to me in my time of need.
But how could I ever be deserving of such help in the future, if I didn't give to someone who I see in dire need now.
I have sent the man all I could without hurting my own family.
If you can spare anything at all to help him and his family in this time of struggle for them, you can send it straight to him by paypal to:
Daibatokornberg@gmail.com
So feel free to download any of my work that is free that you want, and I hope you enjoy my writing... as some people say they do.
And if you feel something in your heart asking you to help those three people in need...
I thank you.

"Will Bevis is one of the most successful indies that I know..." "Maine's Other Author" - Tim Greaton "In typical Will Bevis fashion the formatting (odd line breaks in particular) emphasizes emotional impact wonderfully..." "J. Boutwell " "Thank you, Will, for your brutal honesty..." "I.M.O." Will Bevis is a prolific short story writer who made his mark with a Top 100 for Kindle story, "The Killing of Train-Man Brown," which has been called "A real gem." Some of his other best stories are "Send Me a Friend,""Then Her Wig Fell Off,""Let the Dog Drive," and "Young Turk." He is hoping to change the public perception that short stories are not worth paying for... and seems to be making some inroads: "The story (Young Turk) is too short to cost any money at all, but in the end I'm glad I did spend the money, because it really made me cry..." "K.W." "I am writing this through my tears I am so touched... as though a knife has pierced my heart forever. It's wonderful writing. The words themselves burn into my mind and soul.
